If you weren’t able to join us at VocalFest for “Convention: From Wish List to Contract,” we wanted to make sure you didn’t miss this exciting Region 15 update.
During the presentation, Barb discussed the must haves required by International to successfully run our convention, including sound, lighting, judges’ needs, as well as housing, dining and space needs of our region. I shared what members told us what was important to you through the convention survey: greater convenience, improved accessibility, less time spent on buses, rehearsal space, reasonable costs, and opportunities to spend more time together.
We also talked about an important piece of the puzzle: financial sustainability for the Region. With our membership having decreased by approximately one third, the increased costs of events overall, and our efforts to keep expenses to our members as low as possible, our current convention model is no longer sustainable. The main considerations were finding a convention model that enhances the member experience, makes effective use of our resources, and meets International’s requirements.
Because we couldn’t simply change locations, we needed to rethink what convention can be: more connected, more convenient, and more aligned with what our members told us matters most: a great singing experience together as a Region.
We've included the announcement video below so you can experience the reveal for yourself!
We know you have a lot of questions, and we will tell you more when we have the answers. We’re excited about what this change can mean for Region 15, and we’re looking forward to building the next chapter of our convention together.
Let’s enjoy our last year in Albany together and embrace the future!
Sincerely,
Jenn Hunter
