QUARTET SEMINAR with a.k.a.: April 16, 2011!

a.k.a… Quartet

a.k.a… the Region 15 Greater New York champion quartet and current 11th place International Finalist quartet was originally formed in January 2008. Janeen joined Harriette, Janell and Sue in January 2009, and they went on to win the Region 15 competition three months later.  

This current, most recent and final configuration of a.k.a... has been together ever since. Although they are young in their time together, each member brings many years of experience in the barbershop style.  Their energy, finesse and humor add to their great entertainment experience.

Janeen Summey and husband, Len, are the newlyweds of the group, and live in beautiful Tamarac Florida (near Ft. Lauderdale ). Janeen is the former lead of top International finalist quartet, Heatwave. She’s had a lifetime of preparing for her barbershop career, since her barbershop mom pretty much required a daughter she could harmonize with. Among her many attributes she brings to a.k.a., she also brings the average age of the quartet down significantly! 

Harriette Walters sings baritone and hails from Long Island, New York, where she lives with her soft-spoken husband of MANY years, Robert. Harriette and Robert’s secret to their long marriage is that she isn’t home for more than three nights in a row. Harriette is the Master Director of the current 4th place International Medalist Chorus, the Greater Nassau Chorus in Region 15. She is a Certified International SAI Faculty member, a Moderator of the SAI International Director Education Coordinators and sits on SAI’s International Board of Directors. In her spare time, Harriette travels to coach choruses and quartets around the United States and even manages to spend time at home with her husband.

Janell Paviolitis, bass singer in a.k.a… and a Queen of Harmony with the 1983 International Champion quartet, Melo-Edge, finds herself and recently retired husband, Charlie wondering which state to live in and visit grandchildren… Florida, New Jersey or Missouri. Janell is the current  President of the Coronet Club of Sweet Adelines International and in her spare time coaches quartets and choruses. 

The, tenor Susan Taylor, has sung with several quartets before joining a.k.a…  She is currently singing with two choruses in Region 19, Harbor City Music Company, as well as Upper Chesapeake Chorus, which just so happens to be directed by her husband, Rick Taylor! Sue has the distinction of being married to the “ultimate quartet husband.  Rick is a.k.a’s “main squeeze,” their primary coach, and they feel so fortunate to have him with them all the time!  Sue and Rick live in a suburb of Baltimore.
